Biography
Dr. Hany Bastawrous is a principal educator in the Department of Microelectronics at TU Delft since March 2024. He graduated as an Electronics and Communications Engineer from Cairo University, Egypt and was awarded the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship to pursue PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at Ritsumeikan University, Japan. Dr. Hany served in the Electrical Engineering Department at Cairo University as a Teaching Assistant from 1998 to 2002 and as an Assistant Lecturer from 2002 to 2003. Upon completing his PhD, Dr. Hany was appointed as a research fellow at the Department of Applied Science for Electronics and Materials, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan. His work there, which was funded by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan, included the design and development of all-optical networks in collaboration with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) labs in Japan. Later, he worked as a lecturer at the German University in Cairo (GUC), Cairo, Egypt from 2010 to 2013 where he supervised research groups of undergraduate and graduate students in optoelectronics and consumer electronics. In 2013, Dr. Hany joined the Australian Institute of Innovative Materials (AIIM), University of Wollongong, Australia as an Associate Research Fellow in the Electric Vehicles research group. His work included the design and implementation of a real-time reliable battery management system for electric vehicles and was supported by AutoCRC, Australia and the Malaysian Automotive Institute. From 2014 to 2023, Dr. Hany joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the British University in Egypt (BUE), Cairo, Egypt, where he held the programme director position and co-founded the computer systems engineering programme. He has authored/co-authored over 50 contributed/invited papers in international journals and conferences. Dr. Hany is a senior member of IEEE since 2015 and a founding member of IEEE’s Sensors and Actuators (SEA) Technical Committee.
