This vacancy is in the context of a broader search for new faculty members in Electrical Engineering.

The Department of Microelectronics invites highly qualified candidates to apply for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Digital Design, related to digital circuit design and high-level digital system design.

Digital circuits are the workhorse of all electronic systems, and their design focuses on the translation of high-level algorithm descriptions onto VLSI (large compute fabrics consisting of billions of transistors). We require separate persons to (a) develop design methodologies for ultra-low power digital circuits and map biomedical signal processing algorithms to low-power silicon, and (b) design and implement digitally-intensive communication, radar and sensing systems that require high-speed interconnects. Generic platforms (FPGA) and emerging technologies (neuromorphic computing) are of interest.

TU Delft is a world-class university ranked 19th in engineering and technology in the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Established in 1842, it is the largest and oldest institute of technology in the Netherlands. TU Delft's eight faculties are home to over 20,000 students and some 900 academic staff and cover the entire spectrum of technology, with a combined science, engineering and design focus. The Department of Microelectronics has a strong interdisciplinary research and education programme in the areas of microelectronics and digital design, signal processing, microwave systems and radar, and provides excellent microfabrication infrastructure and electrical /physical characterisation facilities.

Requirements

Candidates should have (1) a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related disciplne, with outstanding academic credentials, (2) several years of working experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher in an academic institution, and (3) the ambition to be a future scientific leader in the mentioned area.

A successful candidate has significant experience in VLSI digital and mixed signal system design, circuit design, and knowledge of deep neural networks, machine learning, and analytical modeling. A proven record of working and collaborating on larger research and development projects, and a record of developing high-quality results. This position includes close interaction with a team of people to design optimal solutions. Excellent skills in spoken and written English are required. Skills include digital hardware design and HDL languages (Verilog, VHDL), experience with digital hardware testing and simulation, programming languages knowledge (C, C++).

The candidate will also be involved in teaching and teach courses like Digital IC design, VLSI Systems on Chip, and Methods and Algorithms for System Design.

While this position is defined as a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, excellently qualified but more senior researchers are also invited to apply.

Conditions of employment
